Safely store away unused fireworks 7/5/2004 11:19 AM By: News 14 Carolina CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Officials in Charlotte are warning people that unused personal fireworks can be dangerous. Assistant Fire Marshal Walker Reid suggests that people soak extra fireworks in water before throwing them out. If they plan on keeping the fireworks, Reid said, "keep them out of a highly heated area like a garage that's sealed up and not getting ventilation. Definitely keep them outside the home." Reid said that if people are lighting fireworks at a later date, they should have a garden hose handy in case the fireworks do not light properly.

The warm windy weather has Bay Area fire officials especially concerned about fireworks this holiday weekend. There are still a few cities that allow the sale of so-called safe and sane fireworks.
